TAKE UP SPACE

A collaborative event with Katie Ramsden, designer and performer, and UAL Arts Student Union.

This installation constructed an environment that invited passers by to interact and take up the space freely.

This work is inspired by Donna Haraway’s concept that ‘only partial perspective promises objective vision’ and applies this to performance, exploring how intersectional feminist objectivity can be found through interactive art forms.

Created from dichroic film on recycled polypropylene sheets, the partition filters or reflects certain wavelengths of light, and the resulting effect changes as you move.

Taking up space can be a rebellion against both physical and societal containment. This project offered a platform and fluidity of physical space for any kind of interaction, and movement, with the partition and those on the other side.
