WITCH
MA set and costume design project located in ‘The Ditch’, Shoreditch Town Hall. ‘WITCH’ is a site specific, promenade piece that explores unoccupied history and the lasting impact of the European Witch Trials. Adapted from the poem ‘Witch Europe’ by Rebecca Tamás, the performance follows the narrative structure of Tamás’ poem and utilises visual references to explore the connection between the witch trials and the transition from Feudalism to Capitalism, a link greatly explored by Silvia Federici.
Each room of The Ditch takes you through the narrative poem ‘Witch Europe’, guided by a faux-viscous oil floor, and culminating in a cathartic burning down of everything. In the final room, a textured, metallic floor and translucent glass, lit at angles, evokes the atmosphere of flames and smoke: an infinite pyre.
